JUNE  2011

June 10th through 13th
The Bead & Button Show Bead Marketplace
Frontier Airlines Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53203

The Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee is the bead show of all bead shows! It is the largest retail bead show in North America, and will offer over 600 classes this year. Classes cover a huge variety of bead and jewelry techniques and the full range of skill levels from new-to-it-all to expert. The event is held each year in Milwaukee’s historic downtown district, the home base for the publishers of Bead & Button Magazine. If you've never been there, Milwaukee is a sweet town with a lot going on, especially in the spring. You will find world-class lodging and dining at Midwest prices all around the downtown area—you can’t beat that!

If you’re shopping for beads at the show, Bead & Button's Bead Marketplace opens for registered show attendees for a special preview on Thursday night, June 9th from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  The show is open to the public starting on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., then Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You can find out more about the show, register for classes, look up vendors, and even print out a discount admission coupon at The Bead & Button Show Web site.

Special Note: I will be teaching classes on lampwork glass beadmaking and etching glass beads at this year's Bead & Button Show! The classes are called "Drawing with Light, Part I & Part II."

Drawing with Light: Part I is a two-day lampwork class focusing on creating pictorial images with glass stringer, with an emphasis on ways to improve control, precision, and detail and you create images in glass.
The Class will be held June 8th and 9th (Wednesday & Thursday). Click here to go directly to the class page.

Drawing with Light: Part II
is a half-day intensive where we will take a tour through all the many techniques you can use to create etched designs of your own on glass. You can learn more by going directly to the class page here.

The International society of Glass Beadmakers will hold it’s annual convention, The Gathering, in Rochester New York this year from July 29th through August 1st, with coordinated events in Corning New York as well. This fabulous annual event is not to be missed if you are One of Us—by which I mean thoroughly hooked on art glass beads.

As a beadmaker, you will be able to see demonstrations and hear presentations by world-renowned artists on a wide variety of topics in glass art. You will also get to meet wonderful people from all over the world, at all levels of glass melting skill, and all of whom are there to share our knowledge and revel in our obsession with glass.

As a bead collector, you will see artists from all over the world at the Saturday Bead Bazaar on July 31st. Some artist who will be there are world famous, others are brand new on the scene, and many do not exhibit at bead shows anywhere else. It is truly a unique experience each year, and not to be missed if you are a lover of art glass beads.
